Default mixing help needed.

I am learning to use Sonar X2, while getting used to new headphones and studio monitors....so i'm having a time mixing. this is a scratch song i've been working on and i am trying to get a handle on the basic mix before adding vocals. any help would be appreciated.

Not really an 11R issue other than you used it on the track. Have you asked about this over on the Cakewalk forums? Then again it's not a Sonar issue either but one of process. Groove 3 has a video on basic mixing called Mix School 101 by Russ Hughes. Would be worth the money for you to get this. Or a good book on mixing.

Great track Singtall! I like your playing and feel! Let me know when you get the vox on and post a new mix.

As far as commenting on your mix, I'd personally like to hear a touch more of the bass guit in the final. But totally understand this is just a work mix at this point. Really like your chords and the big sound you're getting. Gonna be a cool song!

Fritz

most of the feedback i got was that the guitars sound good, but they are too forward in the mix. the drums also sounded a little weak, same with bass.

on this mix; I cut some of the guitar tracks (had 10, cut to 6). boosted bass and drums. eq'd drums (Added high mids) and added more mids to snare. now i feel like the first 30 seconds is weaker than before....maybe that's a good thing?

Sounds pretty good. I agree the drums are a bit too low. Perhaps a bit more separation between guitars drums & Bass within the stereo field.

I liked the 'Satch' type lead bro...nice job!

Good track Good mixing takes time and there are so many variables like the room itself. You had compression on the bass in the 11 but you can add some more with a plugin to bring it more into the mix. Same with the drums.
Nothing is better than experience for getting better mixes. You have a good start though.
