Default £1000 equipment budget.

hi guys,

i posted 2 threads on what to get and everyone suggested the digi 003 console.

i have just over £1000 and would like any suggestions for the next phase of my setup.

I would like a digi 003 but part of me is thinking IS there anything else out there for the money, and is it possible to get multiple items for the money.

All advice would be greatfully appreciated as i have the money and its burning a hole in my pocket. LOL.

I want to have more flexibility to record on location as well as have a hands on mixing feel. ( more so in more inputs for say drum kit recordings)

i have logic pro studio 9 if that helps also, dont know. I really realy want a digi 003 console or rack but would like some feedback folks.

1 last thing is if i go for say the digi rack, is it worth the extra ££££ for the additional mic pre's ......some say waste of money.

is there a major difference with the digi 002.

PLEASE HELP. :)

I have always used an 002R and always felt that the big brother couterpart was too much of a premium for the control surface.

If it were me i would go for an 003R and some third party pre's, i have an octopre LE but theres the new Octopre 2 which looks pretty interesting.

I use a Behringer BCF2000 as a control surface, it's dirt cheap and allows me to stay hands on for many functions. Naturally you would get tighter integration with the 003 but as always it always falls back to budget.

Another option would be the 003+ and a control surface but this would give you less preamps and it's always nice to have a variety.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks dougfather

so would you say there wasn't a real difference between the 003 and 002?

I was also looking at the maudio 2626 tho I'm not really wanting to go down the maudio route.

With the bcf2000 as a controller i saw the 8 fader but is there bank selections to be able to mix say 20-30 tracks so one has 8 tracks and press a button to mix the next 8 tracks and so on. If so then this sounds ideal.

Thanks for the advice.

the 2626 is quite popular, and is certainly a viable choice. I personally don't have any experience with the 002, but my 003R hasn't failed me yet.

The BCF-2000 is pretty nifty. I consider it to be a sort of "my first control surface." It works exactly as advertised, but it's very very cheap. All plastic, no LCD displays or touch sensitive faders (which I consider to be important), and the motorized faders are kinda noisy... but it certainly does the job. It also does "bank" across tracks, as you inquired. And for the price, you can't really go wrong. It also has excellent resale value if you decide that it's not for you, or choose to upgrade.
