Default UA Apollo 8 as insert

Anyone have experience trying Apollo8 as an insert to get plug ins that aren't available on the S3Lx (and as by product extend the DSP capacity)? I am looking at it to get my beloved API2500 back since losing waves.

Our support contact at UA seems to suggest hardware insert latency is short enough that this is workable, wondering if anyone has tried it yet.

cheers

UPDATE: I did the insert last night, no obvious or audible latency with no plug ins inserted, so the UA Apollo as a DSP extender is a very usable option if you need a couple of channels inserted. Of course, there will be some latency depending on what you add to your chain in UA Console patch, but with what I am doing with it no issues whatsoever and this no more than what is already present in the AVID desk.

Sounds awesome BTW, and their recently released API2500 is incredible. I truly wanted to stay 'in the box' but until someone can get a PI that does what the API will do I will have to use the insert.

I've done this in the past with the 1st gen Apollo and Profile. The only situation where latency becomes a problem is parallel compressing drums and other percussive stuff.

That's awesome, I used to use an Apollo as my FX box on a console myself!

Definitely excited to try out that API 2500.

If you've got Pro Tools connected to the system, you can always record the total delay, and make a group delay adjustment to compensate for what's happening out in the computer. That will make a parallel path absolutey usable
