actually pull out everything in the plugs folder!! all digi plugs. the new air plugs have been little buggers as well. especially db33 and minigrand and structure on occasion. just pull everything out and eliminate the possibility.

Two more possibilities eliminated.

It's not related to any plugin. I pulled every plugin out of the folder and got the same results (6088 errors all the time).

It's not related to the digi hardware. I brought in a 002 console and hooked it up and had the same exact issue.

And here are the benchmarks from that software someone mentioned earlier. I've tried recording to each of these drives, with the same result.

O/S Drive (150GB Raptor)

Audio Drive (150GB Raptor)

Test Drive (Lacie 500GB 7200RPM external)

WATYF,

Your HD tests look pretty good on the OS and Audio drive. Lacie looks a bit slow. I think you have been able to eliminate quite a few things, including your 002 as the possible problem.

Let me asks a few more questions.

1) If you open up 8 new tracks in a new session, record enable, then record, do you get this error?

2) Do you get the errors on all your sessions, or just one session in particular?

3) You mentioned a session with just 2 tracks where you tried to add 8 additional drum tracks and got massive errors. You might try this. Consolidated the audio tracks and import them into a new session, then added 8 tracks, and check to see if you still get errors? If no errors, it could be a corrupt session file. If you get errors...I'm stumped...

I generally don't record at 88.2, but I did a small session with 10 tracks at 128 buffer and didn't get any errors. Your hardware looks pretty good, so I would have to lean toward some sort of a software issue. Obviously, these types of issue can be frustrating and take quite a bit of work to solve.

If I open a brand new 88.2 session (not using a template) and add nothing but 8 mono audio tracks, arm them, and hit record, I get an immediate 6088 error.

The account I'm using is an administrator. On the previous install (when the problem first started), the only user on the machine was the windows administrator account.

Ouch!!!

Well, the "Run as Administrtor" is certainly worth checking, cause it has solved or improved some unusual problems.

I'm stating to get low on things to check... but I would examine again your settings on the "power saving" features. Some of these features can power-down the PCI bus, as well as other critical settings. Some of these are in the BIOS, others are in Power Options in the Control Panel. Gigabyte has an Overclocking and Power Saving program that installs when you load your motherboard drivers. If that program is installed, I would uninstall it. I think they are called "Easy Tune" and "Easy Energy Saver".

Usually, when I get a -6088 error I look for something that can affect the firewire. So, a powered-down PCI bus would qualify. But since you had the same problem across two systems, and one was an Asus system and the other a Gigabyte, that does cast some doubt on this theory...but I would check to make sure the setting are correct.

what is your reasonin' behind your partition config??? this 'might' not have anythin' to do with your 6088 error but do you install your executable programs on this separate partition??

have you seen this documentation regardin' 6088...

6085 and/or 6088 errors with FireWire Digidesign or M-Audio interfaces on Windows XP.

If you are experiencing -6085 and/or -6088 errors in Pro Tools when using a FireWire Digidesign or M-Audio interface (002, 003, Mbox 2 Pro, FireWire 1814, FireWire 410, ProFire 2626, etc) and have an eSATA/RAID card with a JMicron controller, you may be able to resolve the errors by updating the driver for the JMicron controller.

Download the latest driver from the manufacturer, then go to the Device Manager, right-click on the controller and select 'update driver', then point it to the newly downloaded driver.

This workaround was reported by a customer and is not supported or tested by Digidesign.

also have you checked...

1) possible IRQ conflicts?
2) adjusted your DAE disks settings in preferences?
3) adjusted your cache settings in preferences?
4) tried an approved PCI F/W card?

That's the old Sandra report (I posted a newer one later in the thread). Yes, I had a separate partition for installing Programs. No, it had nothing to do with my problem, as I proved when I reinstalled my entire system on one partition and still had the exact same issue.

I've downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard. I'm not sure what else I can get to update the JMicron controller.

1) How would I know if I had one?
2) Adjusted them to what?
3) See #2
4) Yes.

1) How would I know if I had one?

system => device mgr => 'view' tab => select 'resources by type' => then look at devices usin' the same IRQ to see if it denotes any conflicts

2) Adjusted them to what?

for your raptor drives i would set it to '0' (best performance) then see if that and changin' the cache setting helps. change one thing at a time...of course

3) See #2
4) Yes.
