Default Optimizing imac for PT9...turn off Airport?

OK....newbie here. Haven't used PT since 2005 when I was on a G4 running LE 6.4. So now I have a blazing new machine and decided to cross grade to PT 9. According to this site, I'm supposed to:

Required Optimizations

Configure System Preferences
Optimize Energy Saver
Turn off Airport and Bluetooth
Disable Time Machine
Disable FireWire Networking
Disable FileVault protection
Update iLok Drivers
Software Update

How am I supposed to connect to the internet if I turn off Airport...and don't have access to hardwire my imac?

Do I HAVE to turn off Airport?

BTW...I'm on a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB of 1067 MHz DDR3. 1 TB ATA hard drive and 500 GB external Glyph and a 002 mixer for my interface.

Or can I just turn off Airport and Bluetooth every time I use PT9...then turn them on again when I'm not using PT?

I guess this is a pretty dumb thread? Doh!

You don't have to turn it off.

If you experience problems running PT with it on, then try disabling it and see if it makes any difference, but I know lots of people who run with Airport and Bluetooth enabled with no issues.

Thanks for the response! I'm going ahead with loading up PT9 tonight. Did a CCC just in case there are any problems!

I have an early 2009 17" MBP running PT9 and I've found no difference whether Airport is on or off while working in PT.

I have almost same set up as Drake24 running PT9. Having issues connecting to the 002. I have read all the posts, optimized settings, and downloaded the 002 drivers. Still wont recognize the 002. Reinstalled both PT9 and OSX serveral times. Nothing was on this computer prior to installation of PT9, was the full install, not the upgrade.

PT9 loads perfect and I can play all my files, only they play through the Mac. I have even cleared all the recommeded setting with that little app, goes through the 4 steps and trashes all files.

I did notice that under system preferences under "other" I see mbox and mbox2, not sure why they are both there, but no 002?

Running 10.6.5

Any ideas as to what I could be missing or check?

Thanks...

You could turn off Airport just while running PT. What would you need with the Internet while running PT anyway?

I thought iMacs had an Ethernet connector or is it you can't run a cable from your computer to your router/Internet connection? Almost all wireless capable routers also have wired connections as well.

Hey jube, I have a 003 and have had this issue once. The only way around it was to shutdown the computer. I would turn the interface on first and wait till it is fully on. I would then turn on the computer. When you installed the pro tools did you do the 002 drivers first? Avid recommend this. Lastly, in system preferences I can only see mbox, mbox2 and eleven. No 003.

Hey N8ty,

thanks for the reply, up all night again trying to figure it out, still nothing...

i did install the drivers first as they suggested.

just tryed what you said, fired up 002, waited until it loaded.

launched PT9, still wont find it, only plays through computer.

In PT, under set up, then hardware,it loads on Pro Tools Aggregate I/O

Digi CoreAudioDevice is "grayed out"

Not sure which one I should be on here.

Also tried plugging 002 into FW Hard drive, and then to mac, still nothing, as well as direct from 002 to mac.

still dont have a clue or any more ideas...
