Unfortunately not. This is something the AVID team is aware of, and are working on it.

really? potential firmware fix? cos this was purely a pt software faux limitation, not a firewire limitation.

From my understanding, it is due to the FWx card on the venue. FW is capable of handling more tracks, although the chip in the FWx card is currently limited to 18 channels.

I thought I remember hearing it was a firewire driver limitation, but not necessarily on the console side.

I have hard time understanding how come Venue was not PT9 compatible when the software came out. Avid is one unified company so Venue guys were well aware PT9 will come out with 32 i/o support. I have been hoping for 32 track (or more) tracking option for SC48 for a long time and it was a really big disappointment to hear SC48 will not be supporting PT9. I hope this will be fixed soon, I love to be able to track with my SC48 but I can't make it with 18 tracks.

But either way, I am hopeful too that one day the FWx will support more channels.

Hi guys,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. Let's see if I can shed some light on the topic....

The 18 channel limitation for FWx relates to the software driver used for FWx, which was based off of the original 002 driver (also 18 tracks). To support more channels requires a new driver to be written, which is not a trivial task for FWx, especially if we want all of the FWx units already in the field to be upgradeable (without forcing you to buy a new FWx card).

We were of course well aware of Pro Tools 9 expanding to 32 tracks, and the potential confusion and disconnect this would cause for FWx. Unfortunately it's not always possible to do everything at once, and have things comes out in a perfectly synchronized manner. Much of the VENUE team has been busy working on the new features in version 2.9, and other projects had to take a back seat while we finished that work.

Work on new features is always ongoing, and we've heard loud and clear that expanding FWx to support more channels is a top request.

Sheldon
