No sound unless record enabled
I previously was able to record tracks, and while playing them back be able to play along. Now, the only way I can hear my guitar is to have a track record enabled.
Is there anything that may have gotten changed during recent Windows updates or by running a cleaner such as Glary Utilities? Win 7 64 bit, PT11, Eleven Rack |

Re: No sound unless record enabled
It sounds like track input monitoring is set to auto.
Try selecting the track and pressing Alt+K. This should allow you to hear audio even when the track is not record enabled. |

Re: No sound unless record enabled
Alt+K has no effect on the problem. Forgot to mention I tried that.
Thanks though!

Re: No sound unless record enabled
Here's a weird update:
When I open PT 11 and open a project, I can hear my guitar from the left channel -and if I enable play on the transport, I can play my guitar along with the track and hear it from the left channel only. However, if I enable record on any of the tracks, and then disable record, my live input goes dead -with our without ALT+K enabled. With record enabled, I can hear the guitar, but if I click play on the transport (not recording-play only) again my live input goes dead regardless of ALT+K

Re: No sound unless record enabled
You did save the session, exit PT, turn off the computer and try again, right? Just asking..

Re: No sound unless record enabled
In response to MODERATOR:
I was able to "play" with a track playback in PT11 before I got the Eleven Rack with the M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface. Once I got the Eleven Rack and the uninstall of the Fast Track Pro and the install of the Eleven Rack was complete, I was still able to play along with tracks being played back. Then one day, it was no longer allowing me to do that. Weird.

Re: No sound unless record enabled
Well after posting an earlier, now deleted, confused reply I'll start over.
As Drew pointed out with Pro Tools you should never be able to monitor an interface's input when the corresponding track is not in record mode. This just should not be happening with Pro Tools and any interface. Now the Eleven Rack does have a local hardware playback mode but Pro Tools does some magic and disables that, other DAWs don't and you'll see users of those DAWs complaining here about that unwanted extra monitoring occurring. So what went on here before that allowed that some possibilities are... You were using an aggreagate IO device as the playback erngine and the Eleven Rack was a part of that aggregate. Depending on IO paths setups it is possible you can get output out the Eleven Rack Main Outputs but to not have Pro Tools mute the eleven Rack's internal output. This is not how the product is supposed to be used, and aggregate IO anything is asking for stability problems. The Eleven Rack was not selected as the Playback Engine at all... in which case it was being used stand-alone and any audio out would have come out from some another source like the computer's built-in output. You were recording to a different track than the audio you were playing back on... may be easy to do if say accidentally recoding the dry track when you though you were recoding he wet/rig output track. You were recoding with a non-Pro Tools DAW. The driver is damaged. The Eleven Rack is faulty. Darryl |
