So, will track freeze be any use to me ... NO!
And wouldn't that be the case in every DAW then? Or have other's done it better?

Same is every other DAW. Can't freeze 'out of the box" tracks.

Absolutely, Drew.

What I perhaps should have said explicitly is ...

Therefore there is actually nothing for me in PT12, seeing as the whole cloud collaboration and marketplace stuff is irrelevant to me.

If by "out of the box" you mean hardware inserts that is true, but, if you mean UAD plugins that is not true. You can freeze UAD plugins in other daws and it frees up the UAD resources while those tracks are frozen.

I'm using UAD plugins with a PCIe card, and of course they freeze in my DAW. Why wouldn't they work? The system sees them as standard VST plugins. And in PT11 they are AAX. I would expect them to work in PT freeze track as well. If not, well that would be a very poor solution.

UAD PCIe is not "out of the box". Very much ITB. Standard VST and AAX plugins. Works very transparently in Samplitude.

Just to further clarify my previous post...

In Samplitude the UAD plugins are treated as any other plugin. They work perfectly for Freeze track, offline bounce, whatever. A simple three minute mix with a couple of UAD plugins might offline bounce in as little as 5-10 seconds.

UAD and certain Waves plugs that use internal oversampling def slow PT's offline bounce down, that's for sure!!

Most my UAD cause offline bounce to bounce at real-time speeds. Makes it completely useless.
