Default midi setup

hi
i'm new to protools and still only getting to grips with how the system works. i am using an mox2 with le 7.4 on a pc. i believe i haven't got my system set up correctly. when i am recording audio through the mbox there are no problems,in the mix window i have all my inserts options for adding plugins to individual tracks & i can hear the tracks in playback. however when recording in midi there are no insert options available in the mix window & i cant hear the recording in playback. i also have muliple midi files that i have loaded into a protools session, and although i can see all the notes of the individual tracks i cant hear them & there is also no insert options for these tracks in the mix window. i wasnt able to activate timewarp 2600 at installation and maybe this is something to do with the problem. do i have to manually put my plugins into protools plugin folder, if so how. i have activated each plugin on my pc (except timewarp) is this enough. anyway any assistance in this matter will be greatly appreaciated.

thankyou jim

Default Re: midi setup

You should be using Instrument tracks.

MIDI tracks are just that; MIDI. Only MIDI. Unless you have an external MIDI device, or are using aux tracks for Virtual instruments (typical with older versions of Pro Tools), MIDI will not create any sound of it's own.

MIDI data is only instructions for MIDI devices to create music. Think of MIDI data as "electronic sheet music".

Default Re: midi setup

I'm having a similar problem but cannot see the device in the instrument track - I'm convinced I need to install it somehow as the keyboard is not showing up in any of the pro-tool's menu's (hardware, midi studio, I/O etc)
