can't hide min:secs ruler

in pro tools 8 min Min:secs ruler is always on, when I try and change it to just bars|beats the minutes:secs setting is grayed. So I can have bars|beats and min:secs but not just bars|beats.

Is there anyway to completely hide the mins:seconds ruler in pro tools 8? I could have sworn this was possible in 7, not sure what changed.

reason for this is cause the bars at the top for the time grid don't coincide with the bars and beats grid making it very distracting.
