Default Rhodes MkII Fans...

Been out for a few days now...

http://www.waves.com/plugins/electric-88-piano

I thought it was just too cool not to share, especially at its current price point!!

It actually does sounds great in my opinion, on par with the best out there. I'm a VERY BIG EP fan/user, too.

I'd rather own the real thing, but thats both too costly and impractical for me, unfortunately. So decent emulation is the next best thing for me.

Most of the one's I've checked out don't make a feature of the mechanical noises. Another issue that seems to plague them is when you slam the key they respond and sound very different to the real thing. Never enough bite or bark in the samples. Its also hard to find one that distorts well, yet Electric 88 distorts very nicely indeed.

The other effects are impressive too. Only wish they had a wah. That was popular technique in the 70s to roll off those bell-like high frequencies. Plus you could always funk with it. Nonetheless, its easy enough to pass it through an external Wah effect, so its not a huge loss.

Kind of hoping they also do a Mark I, a Wurli, a Clav and a B3, especially at this price. It kind of walks all over the competition in terms of value for money.

Why isn't OSX 10.8.5 working with this plugin?

I've been loving the "Electric 88" here. It's one of the very best.

This has constantly crashed Pro Tools on insertion, trying to work with Waves tech support.
I'm on OSX 10.10.5; PT 11.3.1 , have just been told 11.3.2 is a minimum.
Can't do any updating here for a few days, so wondering if anyone else is getting crashes ?
Have found at least one other user on Waves facebook page with similar issues.

How does this compare to Velvet, Tom? I am curious, as I use Velvet A LOT!

Yes, the Velvet question is totally valid. I use Velvet a lot as well. It sounds great, after a bunch of tweeking of course, and would love to hear that there is another plugin that rivals it. It's, for sure, interesting to hear that it doesn't work on 10.8.5. That is what all of my systems are on as P Tools 10 HD is still working best for our productions. I have downloaded the demo of 88 but haven't had the time to install it yet to see if it works on my systems yet.

been using the Lounge Lizard Session for a couple of years and it does have the mechanical sounds but it was always lacking the bite and snarl that i used to get out of real EPs but i made do.

i almost brushed off the Electric 88 because of the price thinking it couldn't be that great but i got bored and demo'd it for ****s and giggles and was quite impressed with the range of sounds you can actually get out of it and if i am not mistaken... they sampled ALL 88 keys PLUS sampled the 'key up' so when you release the keys it barks again :) some libraries only sample a section of keys and that is it or they try to pitch stretch some to fill the whole spectrum... well done Yoad Nevo!

Velvet to me is just that, velvet. E88 has a different more aggressive vibe to it. Kinda' like the tines and hammers have some serious age on them. Still a Rhoades, but less smear in the track. At least that's how it hits me.

Cool! Thanks! I might have to break a rule and try a Waves plug for this.

Plus, it also runs as "stand alone".
