Question Mbox 3 mini question...preamp...avalon 737... please explain!!!

okay so this ones for the experts. I'm working on a project studio and recently had the money for it so i went and bought an avalon 737 for hip hop/pop/rnb vocals.... haven't recieved it yet but have a serious question... I know to make it work with my set up i need to go avalon xlr out to line in on mbox 3 mini via trs....i also read that you cannot bypass the mini's preamp. So i figure i should just turn the gain nob all the way left? would this work or am i going to get bad results? please make any suggestions you can.

you will hear a sonic change but turning the knob left actually gets you into the pad. So you would have to guess ware line level is. There is no indent on the mini. For most of my pres about an 1/8th of a turn to the right with the pad disengaged will give me a pretty clean sound from the mbox mini and still get the character of the gear i'm trying to use. I'm really likeing the pre on it though. Just recorded a whole song on it for fun. No probs no worries.

@brownie, thanks for the info! so your saying do not engage the -20db pad, and just try to find line level by actually increasing the gain on the mini?

yes, all the way left is lower than line level on mine. I would expect its probably at a different place from unit to unit but have no way to test that theory.
