Default Digi 001 as a stand alone mixer

I have a digi 001 system and i am buying another 001 interface only (no pci card). Can the second 001 interface be used as a stand alone mixer and connected to the main interface via lightpipe for a total of 16 analog inputs.

Thanks

No. You'll need a card and a computer for each interface for them to be used simultaneously.

Unless it's apartially stolen unit, you cannot buy just the interface rack unit of an 001.

In addition, you can do nothing with it without the PCI card, as it derives it's power from the PCI card.

There are a multitude of lightpipe interfaces that give you an additional 8 inputs from the crappy Behringer for a couple hundred, The Alesis AI-8 for areound $400(which is quite good if all you neede are line level i/o), Focusrite Octrapre, Presonus...the coices are many to fit all budgets.

These units are al desinged to easily interfacd to the 001 via lightpipe and add an additional 8 i/o to your 001.

Thanks for the information, I know that a new 001 comes with the pci card when it is new in the box. This unit is not new. I appreciate your help.

Now one in thier right mind would sell jsut the berakbot box of an 001, either part is useless without the other. There was a post here just recently about come stolen comptuers with 001's, including the pci cards but not the breakout boxes. If you ahve only one of the two hardware parts of the 001 is is very likely stolen, and is completely useless. without a valid registration you cannto get a replacement part.

also, fyi, you CAN NOT use 2 digi001's on the same computer simultaneously, even with both of them hooked up correctly with their pci cards intact.
