Is this possible....will this work...Advise Please
Hi Everyone,
I just bought a Mac Mini Early 2009 because it was approved by Digidesign (didn't get it yet, it's on its way) which I believe will either have OS X Leopard 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 or maybe even 10.5.7., I'm not sure. At present I'm working with Pro Tools 7.4.2 on Leopard 10.5.4 on two Macs, laptop & desktop. I'm not really sure about... "what's the best thing to do." There are, I guess two senarios that I'm considering. Either...... Just load Pro Pools 7.4 and probably go through the "cs" Updates one at a time if I have any issues or maybe I need to have a specific "cs" update of Pro tools 7.4 for for whatever that particular version of Leopard is. The question is..... Then would I be able swap sessions between all three systems even though the other two systems have Pro Tools 7.4.2 on Leopard 10.5.4 and the Mac Mini which will have Pro Pools 7.4 and Leopard 10.5.6 or 10.5.7 or whatever? Or..... should I... question is... "if need be".... can I "downgrade or downdate" the Leopard software on the Mac Mini , whatever the proper terminology is,....... to an earlier version of OS X Leopard, which would be 10.5.4, which is on my two other Macs and then install pro Tools 7.4.2 so that all three systems have everything the same? But, I'm not sure if this is possible, or necessary. This is above my head and I have been doing as much searching and researching as I can, here and everywhere I can, but I'm still not sure of which is the best thing and what is possible, and really need help and advice on what to do. Still trying to learn as much as I can. Thank You So Much! |

Re: Is this possible....will this work...Advise Please
7.4.2 ran fine with 10.5.8. It isn't on the list because Digi didn't test it (they were already committed fully to v8 by then I guess?) but I can't ever recall anybody having problems because of that particular combination.
So if you decide to try that, then D/L the 10.5.8 COMBO updater from Apple and apply that first. Then install whatever version of 7.4 that you have as a full installer. Then update to the highest 7.4.2 cs update that is available. I don't remember the specific installer sequence to get there.. Hopefully others will chime in and confirm their good results with 10.5.8 + 7.4.2

Thank You flommer.
And what about... if the Mac Mini software is 10.5.6 should I do the same thing as you prescribed.... ..."Install whatever version of 7.4 that I have as a full installer. Then update to the highest 7.4.2 cs update that is available?" If I had to go the other route and use just 7.4, due to any stability issues, would swapping sessions between the Mac Mini and the other two Macs be a problem? Thanks. |
