Default Mbox 2 disappeared

Hi,

My Mbox disappeared, having me a "found new hardware" message, probably because of a virus from wich i got rid of. I have tried to reinstall only the mbox's driver but it did not work. Then I tried to uninstall everything about pro tools, including plug ins and demos. Did not work.

I then came here and I found this thread: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=227954
But it unfortunately did not help as the conversation came into system configuration.

My Mbox was working properly but yesterday morning, it began not working. My firewire cable is okay, as my led is blinking. I just can't install the mbox.

Can you help me?

Thanks.

When you say 'did not work' - can you explain a bit more clearly? Did the uninstall not work?

You may want to visit the General Troubleshooting thread, as it has suggestions that may help (like using the PT Uninstall utility). You should also post your Sandra report if you're unable to resolve the issue.

Unhappy Re: Mbox 2 disappeared

Ok... I tried reformatting my computer and I still did not have success getting my mbox recognized by windows neither by pro tools.

I clicked on the link you gave me but i did not find how we make a sandra report. I can say that my computer's specs are:

Windows XP Pro
SP3
AMD Sampron 2400+
1.67 Ghz
768 Mb Ram
Mbox 2 pro connected to a
NEC OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host controller

I hope this is enough.

What happens:

I follow the steps as indicated in my Getting Started Guide:

I disconnect mbox.
I run the setup wizard located in Pro Tools LE Setup folder on the cd.
I install Pro tools in C:/Program Files
When I'm asked to connect the mbox, I do.
Then the setup continues and the mbox's LED is blinking orange.
When the setup's done, I take out the cd before rebootiing.

After reboot, the mbox' led is still blinking. I try to open Pro Tools and it says that it cannot find any hardware connected although the led is blinking.

The I tried many times to uninstall pro tools and all of his components and drivers and retry these steps, without any success.

Note: I am not prompted that a new hardware has benn connected when I plug the firewire cable in his slot. Also, there is a mbox in my device manager list with a yellow question mark. I have tried before reformatting to install the driver directly from that list but it did not work either.

Now, what do i do???

Thanks.

Sorry for my bad english. I am from french speaking canada...

Here's the info copied from the General Troubleshooting thread:

Note: To enable other users to help you, please include all of your system details when posting an issue to the DUC; Pro Tools hardware, Pro Tools software version, CPU, OS version, Motherboard make/model, chipset, amount of RAM, type of hard drives used, etc.

- Please - Use SiSoftware's Sandra Lite application to generate a full system profile:

www.sisoftware.co.uk

Under SiSoftware Sandra, click on "Download & Buy" to download the free Sandra Lite version or purchase other versions. After installing Sandra, click on the 'Hardware' tab and run the 'Computer Overview', then copy and paste into your post here on the DUC.

I can tell you right off the bat that this is not a compatible system - Sempron processors are a known incompatibility with Pro Tools. I would strongly suggest getting on a supported system - you can try to get this working, but I have my doubts that you'll be able to with that processor.

Ok, I will get another processor. But am I wrong or the problem I have seems to be from a driver issue? Will the fact that I change processor resolve my driver problem?

Meanwhile I find another motherboard/processor, can we go on finding the problem?

Until you get on a supported, compatible system, it's difficult to make any kind of predictions about what may occur. You should look at the compatibility documents on our website, as well as the Best Desktops and Best Laptops threads here on the DUC, which have information on building and configuring a compatible system.
