Default PT 2019 & Roland XP80

I have a Roland XP80 keyboard and I want to use it to play sounds on a instrument or MIDI track using a virtual instrument. Does anyone know what the settings would be inside the XP80 to use it only as a input device? I want to use PT Plugin sounds.
I hope that makes sense.

You want to turn 'Local' off on the XP80. Should be somewhere in the global settings.

Thank you Chuck. I did that just now and as before, I get no input at all inside PT. Either on the MIDI & AUX track or the INSTRUMENT track. ( I tried setting it up using both methods. ) Boy I am stumped as I had this working using PT 7LE. Using 2019 now.

On a whim and after working on this for days, I decided to go get my Roland XP-60. Same keyboard only shorter. Plugged it in and it works. I can only assume prior to more testing that something in the XP80 took a crap. I use the XP60 on stage and always had the 80 hooked up to Protools 7LE.

Is there a procedure to revert to factory defaults? Some ducked up setting might fix itself.

When the session is loaded, does the keyboard appear and is it checked in Setup --> MIDI --> MIDI Input Devices?

Or better yet, go to Setup>Midi>Midi Studio. In this window, create a new "instrument"(the Roland)>brand and model are not required>Input path(this is the most important setting) should be set to however the Roland is connected to the system(IOW, if it has a midi cable going to an interface, set the input path to that interface's midi input. If it connects via USB, select "Roland XP80 on USB[Emulated]" or similar from the list. This tells Pro Tools where to "look for" incoming midi data.

Something I recommend to all who are having MIDI input issues is to grab the free utility called MIDI-OX (Windows) or snoize (Mac). Run it outside of PT and it will show you what's going on with the MIDI input stream. It will at least tell you whether the computer is even getting MIDI data.

How are you connected to the computer MIDI-wise? Round 5 pin DIN connection or USB? Some keyboards that have both capabilities require one to choose between one or the other; not all support using both connection types at the same time. Also make sure that, if USB connected, you have power saving measures in Windows turned off.
