Default HD setup help

Hello, I am currently running PT8 LE and am about to get to the point where I need more than the maximum 18 inputs on their own tracks. I think HD will be the best solution, my question is if I get the HD software, a pci card, and two 192s, will this give me 32 inputs. Is there anything I am missing? Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi there,
I'm pretty sure that each 192 comes with 8 ins/outs as standard, so I think you'll need an additional A to D board in each one.
Hope this helps

two 192 IOs, both with an A/D expansion cards will give you 32 analog inputs and 16 analog outputs.

Is this studio recording or location/live? What micpres are you using at this point and do you currently have any additional converters other than what is in your LE rig?

Lizardpoint is exactly right. The standard 192 is 8 in 8 out (analog). You then have the choice with expansion cards to make it either 16 in/8 out, or 8 in/16 out. So, as he said, to get 32 in, you'll need 2 a/d expansion cards - 1 for each 192.

Woops, other people posted before me.

Brad brings up a good question - what are you doing where you need more than 18 inputs at one time?

I am running two setups with basically the same gear, mobile/stationary. The pre amps would be presonus digimax, art pro DPS II, M audio something, and Behringer 4 channel DI. Also some mics have their own dedicated power supply, such as my NTK. BUT, I can get more pres no problem, I have been looking for a reason to get an Avalon and to test out the new Art Pro 8 channel tube with adat out. My need for the inputs would be dealing with large churches large bands, and choirs.

Okay so if I understand correctly, you need at least one remote system correct? Personally I have PTHD in my home studio with a 192I/O with the A/D card giving me 16x8 as others have stated, but live at my church I have a Venue DShow tied into the PTHD system which stays stationary. HOWEVER there are times I need to go on location to record and frankly, taking my HD system out live can be a pain in the butt to be perfectly honest. This is where I like to take an Alesis HD24 and some mic pres, the only problem is trying to monitor back is an issue---- BUT recording on location and moving the files into PTHD via the FIREPORT is simple to do, easy to move, and sounds great. Typically I'll go out with a rack of Focusrite ISA828's. If this is straight shot recording that's fine, if we're talking studio style recording but on location then well, you will need a way to monitor and control mixes to cans and such.

If you invest in a second HD system for just location recording frankly, you're spending a lot of money that (IMHO) is better spent on moving your mic-pres up to some pro stuff.
