Default 7 Pin xlr

Please Help! I know this is not digidesign or "AVID" related, but the DUC has helped me with so many problems I know some one will have the answer to this. I have purchased a Rode NTK with no 7 pin xlr cable. I have ordered the male and female ends from ebay for cheap. - All of the cables I could find online are like 70 bucks.. any way, does any one know if I could use the cable from a 3 pin xlr cable to link the ends. If not, where could I find the cable to do so, or if its not too too much trouble if any one has a schematic.. Once again I know its not digi related.. sorry, and thanks in advance for any help with this.

I don't know the pinout, hopefully someone else will chime in that does. I have fit two fairly thick pieces of mic cable into one XLR connector before(belden 8423 cable if I remember right), so that is possible. Try to stretch out the rubber boot first by putting a pair of needlenose pliers in it and then pulling them open. Then when you go to pull the two cables through lube the living crap out of everything, butter works surprisingly well.

An now for my joke of the day... "Make your mic cables Willard's way, with real butter!"

For sure, a 3 pin cable is not going to work. If it were me, I would find a Rode dealer and order the correct cable. Its a good mic and I would not risk blowing it(or the power supply) up with an incorrect cable.

Now that I re-read this, do you have the 7 pin connector? That's not entirely clear, I just assumed you had the right connectors and were trying to make the cable.

So this is just going to be a straight 7 pin to 7 pin cable your making?

If so, you should be able to find some shielded cable with 7 wires in it. It may not even use all 7 wires... You'll need to get a pinout diagram first, or find someone else with the same cable who can probe it with a meter.

I think I have a few scraps of 4 or 5 conductor shielded.... depending on length and how many pins the cable actually uses that might be what you need.

According to this thread:

http://www.homerecordingconnection.c...id=14367&frm=1

The wiring is straight through on all pins (1 to 1, 2 to 2, etc.)

I would look on ebay or check a local electronics shop for some shielded cable with 7 conductors... I'm sure that will be relatively easy to find.

that a tube mic right?
so you have 3 pins for audio (2 conductor w/ shield)
then probably 2 pins for the heater and 2 for the plate (these 2 will probable be heaver gauge wire)

IIRC, not having had my NTK for several years, one of the pins was not used. For the K2, all seven pins were used. When I went from the NTK to the K2 I had a short cable from Rode that I thought I could still use, but I couldn't.

Any dealings I've had with Rode in the past, they've had excellent customer service. Start with them first.

Cheers,
