003 and 7.3 issue

Hello,
I am helping a buddy install PT on his mac. It is an old mac with power pc, and i think the osx is 10.4. The problem is he got an 003 with le 8 and it will not work with his power pc, so we are using 7.3. Once we installed 7.3 the 003 says that the "Pro Tools hardware is either not installed or used by another program." Can anyone please tell me what is going on here. Thanks in advance.
