Disk Maintenance Help

In the last couple of years I haven't been keeping up with the latest software tools. I've used Norton for many years and I have a hunch that there's been some new developements out there lately. Anyone care to clue me in?.... Is Tech Tool better?.... Is there other software packages I haven't heard of?

(My old method of maintenance was to rebuild the desktop and run Norton Disk Doctor once a week at least.)
