Default CPU Overload Error 6101- Help!

Hey guys, I'm new here but have been using PT for nearly a decade.

I've searched the other threads and can't seem to find anything that works. I've tried everything I can think of.

1) Optimized all preferences
2) Uninstalled all 3rd Party Plugs
3) Uninstalled and Re-installed PT
4) Tried other external drives

The only thing that seems to help is raising the buffer, but it keeps happening even if I only have 1 or 2 tracks going, even after engaging track freeze.

I'm running a brand new Mac Mini w/ PT 12.4
8 GB RAM
Recording to External USB 3 Drives

Wondering if it could be my interface?

Digi 003 using a thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter, then an 800 to 400 adapter into the 003.

(although I know other guys doing the same thing without problems and it seems to work fine w/ Logic Pro X)

Any suggestions appreciated!

Hi BottleRocket

Sadly I'm having the same issue with PT 11.3.2 with a 003 and thunderbolt to firewire adapter, running Maverics.
I'm getting constant AAE -6101 errors and upping my hardware buffer size with no improvement.
I tried disabling plugins and a host of other things including disabling Firewire networking (see below), changing cables/adapters, reinstalling 003 drivers. Switching the playback engine to Pro Tools aggregate seemed to solve the problem but it leaves me with a useless factory 003 interface.
Switching to another playback engine, even without restarting allows me to run a buffer down to 32 samples without errors.

The only thing I've found that helps is restarting the iMac. Just power cycling the 003 and restarting PT doesn't cut it.

I've tried all the optimisations suggested on the Avid site. I thought disabling the networking on the firewire bus would help but in the end it was only the restart that temporarily fixed it...

Heres the link to the optimisations page:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ire_Networking
Disable FireWire Networking (FireWire Devices only)
This optimization can help free up bandwidth in the firewire bus and allow Digidesign FireWire devices to work more efficiently.

Open System Preferences.
Click 'Network'.
On the left hand sidebar, click on FireWire/Built-In FireWire/Thunderbolt FireWire.
Click on the drop-down menu for 'Configure IPv4' and choose Off.
Click Apply and restart your computer.
