mbox 2 pro playback slowly and distorted

hi,
i have installed mbox 2 pro standalone drivers for osx without the protools le on osx 10.6.8 and got some problems with it.
the osx recognize the mbox on the system prefs, but the sound comes out is heavily ditorted and low pitched.

i'm using a new texas instruments firewire pcie and the same cable, that worked perfectly on the pc.

can anyone help>?
