Two different headphone mixes?
Is there a way to create two different headphone mixes in pro tools?

Re: Two different headphone mixes?
Not sure if it's possible without HDX. Even in native if I remember correctly only 1 stereo output is low latency, whereas HDX any and all outputs can be low latency.
If your interface allows monitoring before it goes to the computer you can do it there if they have a software mixer. In the software you would leave the main output to the control room mix and use sends to get the audio to other outputs. If you don't have an external mixer or headphone system, you'd have to use the send level for making the mix.

Re: Two different headphone mixes?
SOOO , here's what I did. As an experiment , I created two busses (hdl & hdr) , panning one hard left and one hard right.. I took my "bass" track and my "Guitar" track and added a send for each of the new busses on each track. Set the send to pre. Panning each send and each bus track hard right and the other hard left. My headphone amp can be set to Stereo or two channel so I set it to two channel. I panned one headphone channel hard left and the other headphone channel hard right. Now I can adjust the level of each instrument from it's respective send, giving me two different mono headphone mixes. whaddyathink:)

Re: Two different headphone mixes?
If it works, it works. If you are going to be overdubbing previous recorded material I'd make sure that works as well as punch ins.

Re: Two different headphone mixes?
I just set to a low buffer size and do as many aux mixes as I want with PT Native. Never had a problem.

Re: Two different headphone mixes?
You can do several headphone mixes without HDX or Ultimate software. What you need is:
1-an interface with several outputs( think the Audient will NOT allow for this) 2-a headphone amp for each mix 3-proper cables(some may need to be fabricated, depending on the headphone amp and interface) Using the DIGI003 as an example, it has 8 outputs. 2 are used for the main outs, so that leaves 6, which can provide 3 separate stereo mixes. In the IO setup window>Output tab; create 3 stereo paths and route them to the outputs 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8. In your session, add 3 stereo sends(to every track) that feed those 3 sets of outputs. Patch the outputs to your headphone amp(s). Now you have an choice; set all the sends to -0 and post-fader so they all start with the same mix as you have dialed in the CR(and adjust from there). OR, set all sends to pre-fade and start tweaking(I find if you take an existing session and put on headphones fed by the sends, you can get things pretty well and then save that session as a template, so the headphone mixes are already in the ballpark. If you have more available outputs, you can make more mixes(up to the 10 available send slots), but 3-4 can cover a small band. My setup is wired to provide 6 mixes, but I rarely use all 6. Last word; because hitting a SOLO button while tracking will usually mute sends to reverbs, I try to never hit a SOLO button while a band is tracking(so it doesn't mess with the headphone mixes by suddenly making something change, which is distracting to players).

Re: Two different headphone mixes?
Read my reply again as that covers everything you need. My current setup is also HD/Native(PCIe card) with HD IO(x2) and 192 IO(x2). With these interfaces feeding UNbalanced headphone amps, you must make special cables because both these interfaces will be damaged if their balanced outputs feed unbalanced inputs with the cold side to ground. With most any other interface, that's not a problem.
If you have a lightpipe OUTPUT, that could feed something like the Behringer ADA8200 to add 8 outputs to your setup.
