Default Still writing Auto Join/Latch while in Preview?

I cannot figure out why PT does this. It's not a big problem, it's just confusing:

If you're in Latch and Auto Join, happily writing automation, and then you go back and kick into Preview mode, the Auto Join picks up and continues writing automation that you're not hearing because you're in Preview. This isn't really a problem, because I usually just write-to-selection over the errant automation, but it's odd. Am I missing a reason why this works the way it does?
