mbox2 usb hardware not showing up when launched???

mbox2 shows up in usb hardware overview but the light on the mbox2 is not iluminated and when i launch protools 7 it says hardware not present???? i am using a 17" mac book pro 2.16 ghz , 1 gig of ram in mac os 10.4.7 its plugged into the left usb port.....why cant i get this thing to work????? thanks
