Default HD 9, Komplete 11 Ultimate, & 6 Core 3.33Ghz?

Hi guys, I have (2) blue 192's, Control 24 and an old Power PC G5. Retiring the G5.

I'm planning to buy a : 5,1 6-Core 3.33Ghz Westmere 32GB 1TB ATI 5770, along with the cards below (minus one accel):

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Avid-Digide...19.m1438.l9372

I'm assuming that... HD 9 will keep my control 24 alive, and some of my old waves plugins still working, OS 10.11 will enable Komplete 11 and HD9 to be happy together, and my digilink cables will connect up to the Pcie cards without trouble.

I want to use this for composing/scoring to picture.

I know there's better out there, but there seem to be enough people endorsing the six core and the price is right so...

Am I good? Or am I missing anything?

thanks for any insight!

Be aware of the system requirements for PT HD9, it will not work on OS 10.11, see http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ility/en380531 and http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ility/en436391.

So maybe you will need to make one partition with 10.6.x or 10.7.x for HD 9 and one partition with 10.11.x (or higher) for Komplete 11.

If you want to use PT and Komplete 11 together you will need Pro Tools 12 but Pro Tools 12HD (now called Pro Tools Ultimate) will not work with TDM cards, only with HDX card(s).

Okay great, thanks a million for the heads up.

Hmmm. From a cost perspective, Wondering if I can just score to picture with the westmere using komplete 11 and protools 12 vanilla and then pipe everything over to my g5 tdm PT 7.3 for mixing? I’m just not sure how far I can push vanilla with komplete and a few audio tracks, and then also whether the method for session transfers would be a headache, etc.. maybe I just need to bite the HD Native bullet. Dunno.

You will be able to push PT 12 vanilla with Komplete 11 and a lot of audio tracks very far on a Mac Pro 6 Core 3.33Ghz., especially for mixing. It will run in circles around your G5 TDM PT 7.3.

I don't see any reason why you should continue using your G5 TDM rig other than for live multitrack recordings without latency.

Thanks, and yes I agree about the tdm g5, I just like the
Control 24 surface for mixing, that’s the only reason! Appreciate your help.

Well, that should not be a problem. Neyrinck has a new version of V-Control Pro that supports Control 24 and ProControl in Pro Tools 12 by the HUI protocol. Take a look at https://neyrinck.com/v-control-pro/.

And I know it really does work, because I'm one of the beta-testers of this new version of V-Control Pro. However I tested ProControl functionality, not Control 24, but I'm very confident Control 24 will work fine too.

A small advice with large consequences:

Change all the HDD drives in the Mac Pro 6 Core 3.33 GHz to SSD drives, for example Samsung EVO 860 1 TB SSD drives. It will make your Mac Pro with Pro Tools 12 and Complete 11 Ultimate very fast.
