I emailed the Avid store about the $99 crossgrade for M-Powered if purchased since Oct 4. The response:

"Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately we do not know if there is going to be a grace period for purchases like your. Avid has not released any information on this matter.

We recommend you to check the following link frequently:

We apologize for not being able to further assist you.'

The question was about LE hardware purchase, not toolkit software. Two different answers. The AES press conference said $99 for LE purchase after Oct. 4. They said it would not be free. Of course that can change at anytime.

I have not heard anything either. Since UPS just delivered my 003 rack on Friday and it is still all sealed up in the box I am just going to send it back and see what new hardware they will release in January.

The big question is, If i bought a Mbox Yesterday will the update cost 99 oder 250?

He said something like" If you bought Protools le, from october 4. you´ll get the crossgrade for 99"

The big question, if you bought Protools le => The Update or bundled with an Mbox.

Simple question easy answer.

Just got this from Avid, after a couple of Emails:

Dear Sir,

As unfortunate as it may be, there was never to be a 99$ upgrade for Pro Tools 9 so it seems that you had been given incorrect information.

Even if it was a mistake, how hard is it to stand up and say "there wasnt ment to be an 99 update, we were wrong on that one. We are sorry"

I expect they are finding it hard to come up with a coherent policy. Rumour has it that they will ship Mbox etc with PT9 from Jan, but with a price hike to reflect the added value of the bundeled software.

But the problem is that if this price hike is $250 dollars, then sales will suffer because to a newbie it makes no difference that Avid have added functionality that you get anyway with other DAWs.

If the price hike is less, or not actually announced in advance, then only a fool would buy an Mbox between now and Jan 1st anyway....
