Apollo x4 vs RME UFX 2?
I have been RME user (FF 800) for years.
Now considering the two interfaces above, for about same price. My main criteria: - have something for many many years - some flexibility on inputs (i am getting rid of a Yamaha console, used to have tons of inputs even though i used few simultaneously....) - moving abroad: i need something portable (considered the Apollo Twin X and RME Babyface, but afraid of frustrations should i need to connect, say, 1-2 external modules or keyboards. - of course, user friendliness inside PT (RME was great!) - wondering if I pay for quality with UA or for plug-ins/software included... but i like the tabletop (rather than rackmount) angle - RME is USB (just sold ff800 because of disappearing FW technology). At least with usb i don’t need to replace computer at same time... But how long USB 2 will remain usable ? ... (and will next Mac be using yet another TB protocol such as TB4 with yet adapters that cost the price of a monthly mortgage payment? USB has been around and backward compatible for almost decades, TB is at its third iteration - always needing costly adapters every time... a real PITA. Yet UA sells you to TB3 and don’t even bother to include a cable which, as i now discover, can cost you like $100 for 6 feet!.... - ease of use (no hassle) + learning curve is not a negligeable factor. Of course, i am in known territory with RME, but this should not be my main concern. Don’t know if anyone here would have worked with both UA and RME styles, and what would you say ?
