Default New to MIDI

Hey all,

I'm looking to record triggered acoustic drums and mic'd cymbals. I'm just not sure what software I should get. I currently have the Alesis DM5 Drum Module, ProTools 7.4 LE, and ddrum DRT triggers. I'm looking to be able to plug into my Profire2626, the record through the DM5 as the brain.

I know it's possible, just not sure what software I should or need to pick up.

This is the first time I'm trying triggers for recording.

Any and all help greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

There are 2 routes to go here. 1 would use the sounds from the DM5, so you would simply plug audio cables out of the DM5 to inputs on your interface, and record to AUDIO tracks. The problem there is; how many outputs does the DM5 have. If its 4(as in 2 stereo pairs), then you could assign/pan so you could have Kick on MAIN-L, snare on MAIN-R and toms spread across the AUX outputs. Another option is to record the MIDI from the DM5 to a stereo Instrument track and inserting ezdrummer, SD2 or similar VI. That would allow the drummer to play the real kit, but have the sounds of the plugin kit(and you can change sounds after the recording is done). Even if you decide to record the audio from the DM5, I would still track the midi as well, in case you want to quantize, correct or change sounds later on.
