Default Enter a carriage return in the Comments area?

I'm trying to enter carriage returns in the Comments Area in the Edit window.
Page 209 of the manual:
To enter a carriage return in the Comments area, press Shift+Enter (Windows) or Shift+Return (Mac) on the alphanumeric keyboard.

I can't get this to work.
Here's the comment as I'm typing it using Shift+Return for each new line:

Here's the finished comment:

I've searched the forum and found that people were having this problem as far back as PT7.1.

i can confirm this on my system as well .. BUT found something else .. if you open up the track by clicking on it's name .. you get the track name / comments box and it does look correct there ..

and you can get it to work by adding 9 spaces after you last character .. so 1) ONE now 9 spaces 2) TWO

it works but stupid ..

and if you add the 9 spaces it will not look correct in the track name / comments box ... again stupid

it auto condenses the same way the track names shorten

the condensing algorithm should probably be updated

Good idea!

Comment column - variable width would be useful - especially on large monitors.

In PT 12.8 it seems to work with the '9 spaces workaround', but only if the first line is long enough. My comment "Kick<9 spaces><shift-return>beta 52a", still prints on a single line, while "Vox Peter<9 spaces><shift-return>KMS 105" prints correctly on two lines. Weird!
