Default Miktek PMD4 kit

Anyone tried these mics? I'm very impressed by the CV4, so maybe they got it right with this little kit too?

Haven't heard it yet, but I am liking the CV4, C7, C5MP and the PM9 live vocal mics, so I suspect they will be a safe bet.

Safe bet? That's funny, Albee - too funny.

So you have NEVER bought a product based on previous great experience from that brand? No matter what kit of drum mics you buy, the results will depend on the sound/tuning of the drums, the sound of the room and the player's skill/style.

I find any drum mic kit that has 3 of the same mics, stating that they're for snare and toms is not really a pro solution...at least in terms of studio use.

Yes, I have done that many times. I tried to make a joke about betting, but it got lost in translation.

I've talked to a couple drummers and live sound engineers about this upcoming project, and hopefully they can help me. I've never recorded acoustic drums before, and it freaks me out.

That did sound a little weird, I agree. But if they sound good on toms, I'm pretty much covered.

Thanks.

While I agree with all that's been said, I find that most people looking at drum mic kits are not the same kind of shopper that others are. For me, the ideal package would probably have 421's for rack toms, something else for Floor toms, a few different snare mics...........oh wait, I can't buy that as a kit Then again, how many mic kits include a U47 FET for bass drum..........(now THAT would be a drum mic kit!).

Dave, I roughly know what the pros prefer, and it's quite frankly out of my price range. I need to find something to "get by" with for this low-budget project, without spending more than I make. Here's what I have:

- Josephson C42 MP
- Milab VM44s
- Shure SM 57s
- Shure Beta 52
- Shure Beta 91
- BLUE Woodpecker
- Miktek CV4
- Rode K2
- Peluso 2247
- AKG Solidtube

You see, some of these aren't exactly renowned drums mics. I need something in the cardioid department.

You got a nice bundle of mics! Since you have kick and snare covered, I think the Miktek drum package would do fine. You might use the bass drum mic on the floor tom Also, considering how easy it is to augment/replace drum sounds(especially toms), it may not be as critical as we think BTW, I have a friend that uses a pair of Cascade Fathead II's for overheads and loves them

Thanks, Dave. What I'm thinking to try first:

- Snare > Sm57s
- Kick > 2247
- Overheads > C42s
- HiHat > Woodpecker
- Room > CV4

Don't know what to use on the toms, but I just have to try 'em all out. Maybe the VM44s? If I can't get satisfactory results, I'll just use Drumtracker, and go from there. But it's more of a pride thing, you know. I would love to get what I need straight into the DAW.
