Output needs toggling every time you want to hear it - Anyone else?

Weird -
For a little while, now, PT 12 (now 12.7) is all like "NOPE" when I want to hear the output from a track I am recording into (eg I like to monitor my outboard verb as I am recording to check how it sounds), until I manually select a different (ie WRONG) output and then select the correct one again - then it's if it never was a problem.
I have to do this pretty much every session. Toggle the wrong one, then the right one. It's like the process of selecting a different output (from within the channel) and then toggling back to the correct one is now necessary to prompt PT's demented mind - "oh, yeah, that's right, that IS the correct output, after all".

Generic advice/questions:

Try trashing prefs

Does this only happen with one session? Or all your session?

What interface are you using? If you try a different interface (like Built-In Output on a Mac) does this happen?

If this was hitting lots of users DUC would be full of complaints.

The track you are showing the output for is solo'ed but does not have track monitoring enabled. Were you just showing us what is available in the output selector or is that track one specifically having the problem?

I'll have to try my built in output...

I was only showing what is available and illustrating what parts of the UI I was referring to.

I am loathe to trash prefs because I only literally just resolved a constant -6101 CPU error with Avid's help - took ages and many, many installs / reinstalls / trash / reinstall etc to fix. It took hours worth of work. I'm not touching my prefs.

If that's the issue, which it may be, then I'll just keep dealing with it. I'd rather work with this than risk having -6101's kill all my work again....

Trashing prefs should not cause problems.

Give up now then. Don't do anything that could try to fix this problem.

Trashing prefs is something you should often just try when facing problems.

Trashing prefs makes no sense to compare to doing a Pro Tools upgrade. There are things there that commonly cause problems, including plugin and OS compatibility issues. Trashing prefs is commonly used to fix problems. And it's easy to do and if it does not help then move onto the next troubleshooting step.
