Perhaps... but Tiger and PPC hanging about was moreso at the discretion of Apple. Avid only dropped PPC support at the same time Apple did, it made sense really.

I still run Leopard, too, and will probably continue to do so until I have a good reason to upgrade. If I dabble in this new HD stuff... it will be a good reason.

I got Phoenix but I rarely use it... You have many other options in HEAT.
IMO - Heat is simply Fantassimo.

Sound wise to me they are similar, but I haven't tried the demo. So, you would be a better judge than I would.

What makes it so much better than Phoenix in your opinion? You mentioned options, but on the surface I don't see that big of a difference.

Better sounding is of course opinionated. I really like what HEAT does to the highs/life of the overall sound. It is kind of VERY hard to explain... The analog board I mix on at times has a 2" inch tape deck hooked up to it and the sound really reminds me of that. Phoenix I dont really like and I hate having to insert it on different tracks etc. NO OUTPUT CONTROL. Also, I can never remember which of the five editions I had inserted. etc etc.
I like(d) McDSP analog Channel better than Phoenix anyway, so perhaps I aint the right one to ask.

Would interest me though, what other folks think who owns phoenix.
At least, none of the so called tape emulators never did it for me, but HEAT is really pleasing to my ears.

HEAT basically is applied to all audio tracks (there are bypass' and PREs) on all. You have one MASTER control over HEAT. 1) Drive (Positive & Negative) value. 2) Tone - turn it CW and you will get air, CCW you get no air.

I have not read the manual, purposely to what the controls are doing. Reason is that if I do read it, my mind will be
telling me what the controls do exactly, and I prefer my ears and what they are telling me. Maybe I'm weird in that regard but thats me

Agree, nothing soundwise like Phoenix. Just did a quick accoustic mix with heat - what a difference... (never liked Phoenix much - but thats an other story..)

I actually think its affecting the master also (just no control) not fully tested yet tho..

I've been mixing with it for awhile now, and I'm summing into multiple audio tracks set to input - that way you get HEAT on both the source tracks and the summing busses, so to speak.

You have to print back into PT this way (because you can't Bounce with a track in Input), but it works great, and it allows you to better manage the dsp resources that way as well.

Sounds very cool in theory.
My HD system arrives this week.
I have the TDM McDSP Analog Channel coming also.
Should I sell it and use HEAT in your opinion or stick with Analog Ch.
I also have the Phoenix coming so very interested to hear the difference.

I own Phoenix, and to me Heat sounds NOTHING like Phoenix. Phoenix never got really crunch when you pushed it. Heat barks like crazy. So far, I love it.
