Default Serial Vs. USB

Im thinking of buying a midi interface to compliment the 001. Does anyone know if there are any advantages to serial or usb? for some reason i thought serial was faster but im not sure. thanks for your help jay

This isn't a direct answer to your question, but you might want to take a look at Stephen St. Croix's article on MIDI in the latest issue of Mix.

Evidently, USB 1.0's bandwidth is fairly limited. It's possible that we might be seeing Firewire MIDI interfaces in the not so distant future.

There will probably be some major MIDI changes when OS X finally takes hold. At the moment, it's best to buy the interface designed for your application (Emagic, MOTU and Steinberg all have proprietary systems in addition to OMS).

Usb if they are optimized are very fast. midi is a very litte amount of info. Th usb is a perfect stable solution to MIDI. I have motu XT, it has never locked up, and is always on time.
I always see posts about bad timing with cerial
you decide mlan is far off
