update PT 8.0.4 to 8.1 and MacOs 10.5.6 to 10.6.4
...I today moved from PT 8.0.4 to 8.1 and from the last version of leopard to snow leopard 10.6.4 with no problems... and without a clean install ... just updating my mac os X first and afterwards Pro Tools and it all is working fine ! already opened several sessions I have been working on ... everything is there ...plugins TDM and RTAS, virtual instruments, midi (midnams ...midi presets of outboardgear), unbelievable... ...nevertheless I recommend using time machine before proceeding. make a complete backup of your system HD to go back to just in case something is not working as it should... right now I personally have to say ... very well done digidesign ähem avid ...

Re: update PT 8.0.4 to 8.1 and MacOs 10.5.6 to 10.6.4
I did the upgrade of both osx and pt yesterday and had the same experience. The only issue I had was that the convolution reverbs in the session I was working on loaded the wrong IR's, but a recall of my user presets and some tweaking sorted it out. Have you implemented the trial if heat on your system yet? Any thoughts?
I'm really liking it, as much as I felt it was kind of a gimmick I'm theory, it actually sounds really good! with subtle settings. I'm really impressed. |

no I did not install HEAT right away because I just wanted to have a look if everything is stable and working ... but I guess I will give it a try within the next days after additional checks with snow leopard and pro tools 8.1 ... digidesign pre, the 192 interface, the midi interface and all the settings were transferred correctly ... one of the most trouble free update expiriences I had within the last years I have to say ...

Re: update PT 8.0.4 to 8.1 and MacOs 10.5.6 to 10.6.4
I had one strange thing after updating; my Vienna Ensemble Pro's that were connected in a session came up as unconnected after the upgrade. Fortunately I had saved the project data separately so I was able to re-connect and re-load.

Re: update PT 8.0.4 to 8.1 and MacOs 10.5.6 to 10.6.4
I did a similar upgrade today. I went from PT 8.0.3cs2 to 8.1cs1 and OS 10.5.8 to 10.6.4 and so far, so good. The most tedious part was going through all of my plug-ins making sure they were up to date as is the case with most PT updates. I haven't done any thorough testing yet, but I opened up a very large session (120+ channels w/a fair amount of plugs and automation) and everything looked and sounded fine.
I've always done an archive and install with previous Mac OS installers, but the Snow Leopard standard install worked fine (10.6.0 upgrade followed by the 10.6.4 Combo installer). I also had a current back-up at the ready in case it didn't go so well.

I have done the same thing. Some sessions work great, a couple of others a little buggy. Finding the newest plugs takes some time, any known issues with certain plugins not making the jump?
