Default Namm and Digidesign..

With all the speculation out there, I just happened to wonder...has Digidesign even formally announced that they will even BE at Namm?

Sadly it was a huge disappointment. Many of us were hoping for updates to the AIR plugins. Some may argue the 'hype' on the official AIR users blog led to this. The only 'new' product introduced by Digi at NAMM is the same plugins have been repackaged in a new box and the price dropped to $499. FAIL

Well... that's a bummer. But, there was some pretty wild speculation flying around. I was kinda surprised by what folks were hoping for!

It shouldn't be too surprising to expect updates to an HD system that's literally the same technology from 8 years ago.

Ok, so the plugins did get some minor updates and the plugin pack now includes Transfuser as well.

Strike
  • New style editor that enables you to quickly create your own styles.
  • Sample import, simple, quick and easy, with the added bonus of being able to drop loops in.
  • MIDI export now makes sense - press the record button, finish and drag out - done!
Structure
  • Import of all popular formats with ease; EXS, Giga, K3 - Done!
  • The new database engine is a dream, less of those 'where the hell are your samples!' dialogue box.
  • The cool MIDI articulation features.
Velvet
  • The built in reverb is a nice addition avoiding the need for an extra plugin!
Transfuser
  • The 6 band para, so nice I advise sending audio through it just for that!
  • A TB303 in the box, what more can I say?
Hybrid
  • The extra waveforms and noise filters are perfect for retro stuff.

Until PTLE gets ADC to make it usable, I wouldn't be interested in buying the pack that works only in Pro Tools even if it were $49.

Who cares? Avid had a booth full of sofas and shipped meaningless dot releases of a few AIR VIs. Apple shipped 64 bit Logic 9.1, for free, with >70 bugfixes the day before the show.

I am totally happy to let the Applemagic people stay home and sleep in their own beds if they will give me the next generation of technology for free in a timely manner.
