Yeah - that would be a problem for us as we have three slots being occupied by TDM cards.
Do you think switching out the graphics card to the ATI Radeon HD 5770 would fix the issue?
By that I mean is it worth it to do just the one and not the other or is it a package deal?

No package deal of course, just our situation. I'm almost certain that upgrading the graphics card will fix it.

Okay - thanks so much for this input. I'm gonna swap out the graphics card first. Hopefully that resolves the situation. Then next step would be to buy the Black magic.

So last night I tried something.
I switched from my TDM hardware to pro tools aggregate. (We are using a 96 i/o)
Essentially running Native.
This immediately fixed the issue.
Everything ran as smooth as a baby's bottom.
Then I switched it back to the TDM system and it was fine.
No jitters. No Stutters.

What could that mean?
corrupt hardware or PCI cards?

any thoughts?

I get slow or jerky playback on full HD picture, even just 1280x720 files. I bust them down to 720x480 and apart from a minor softening of the resolution on the TV screen, the only other 'symptom' is that Pro Tools operates properly again and the picture streams smoothly.

I performed the same test when I was having the same issue. Indeed, native + GT120 = smooth, TDM + GT120 = jerky after a while.
Local Avid support never heard of this problem.
Probably Sonny's workaround reduces PCI-bandwith use and/or graphics card memory transfers.
What PCI-hardware combination are you using, Sonny?

Hey,
So we purchased a blackmagic intensity pro.
Installed it in the third PCI slot.
Updated the drivers from the website.
Connected the HDMI output to the monitor (HDMI in).
I know the hardware is working because I ran a test with the black magic media player.
But when I run quicktime or video playback in a pro tools session - I dont get any video out?

Am I missing something here?

Select "video out PCIe" in one of the menu's (I'm not in the studio now).
Also, you can choose an offset in the setup menu to compensate for the delay of your hdmi monitor.

Hey, Thanks for the quick response.
Yeah we checked the video out PCI option under "options."
Had no effect.
Its strange though because it works with the provided software?
cant get quicktime

So i started moving the pci cards around and switching the Blackmagic from slot 3 to 1.
And now of course I've completely buggered my system.
Pro tools is stuck on initializing hardware (DSP) on startup.

I've moved everything back to the way it was.

Removed the black magic and still nothing.

I think I've [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]ed up the PCI cards.

Ughhhhh.

FML.

Looks like its time to go native.
