Fuse, Miro, PT and 9600...???
My machine: 9600/200 with NewerTech 300/1Meg G3 accelerator, 192 Megs of RAM, OS 8.1, PT 4.3.2 w/ d24 hardware, Adaptec 3940UW, USD, SSD, DTP
I'm currently working on a feature film and considering digitizing the video to use in Pro Tools for spotting/editing the music cues -- so I'm wondering about either the Miro DC30 or Fuse cards. Is there anyone out there who has a similar system with either of these cards and does it work well? My concern is if I place the card in slot 5 next to my Adaptec card which is in slot 4... will I have problems with buss mastering? I am considering adding another Cheetah drive to my internal fast SCSI buss for use with the video and keep my external SCSI buss and Adaptec busses available for PT audio... What size drive(s) would I require for digitizing about 90 - 120 minutes of video at a usable quality (using an external 20" or 50" monitor). Any special consideration for sync issues between the two cards? The audio track count so far is pretty conservative (from 3 to 24 tracks). I obviously have no experience (firsthand) with doing this... so any guidance would be very much apreciated.... Thanks. Rail ------------------ Recording Engineer

Re: Fuse, Miro, PT and 9600...???
I have a Fuse card and so far I think it ******for Post. Stutters like crazy. I know folks who have tried both the Fuse and the Miro DC30+, and the Miro appears to work better in Post applications.

Re: Fuse, Miro, PT and 9600...???
Thanks Peter
I borrowed a Miro DC30+ from a friend who owns a rental company, and plugged it in and was working in less than 15 minutes... so I'm sold. I did have to put the Miro card in my slot number 4 and my Adaptec 3940 in slot number 5. Thanks again and best wishes for the New Year. Rail ------------------ Recording Engineer

Re: Fuse, Miro, PT and 9600...???
Rail,
I just bought a Miro card. Works great. I had a friend who's technically very savvy help me set up premier. Once set up correctly I digitized 1 hr movie and there was no drift. I think the key is in setting up your digitizing correctly and then conforming to 29.97 in the software. Also, I hear that the new DAE/DSI (for PT5) works considerably better for scrubbing. The DAE/DSI will work with 4.3.2. Best of luck, Bill |
