Default Trimming Midi... Why does it do this?

Hi,

When I select midi in the edit window and trim it on both sides (command + T) See images 1 and 2 .... It removes the first note and doesn't crop the last one.....(In grid mode). When I use the trim tool (fig 3 & 4) and trim to the downbeat (grid mode) it removes the first note even though the note is after the grid mark... Why?? Please help.

A very well known issue with a tireless push for well over 15 years to get it's behavior changed.

We've been fighting for this fix since forever.

Unfortunately, many just edit MIDI elsewhere.

I've been told it's being looked into.

Unfortunately we've been told, "It's being looked into" for 15 years. I've completely given up advocating on this one, along with many other essential MIDI issues.

That MIDI track region view is so clunky and ugly, what is the benefit of looking at your MIDI like that? The worst thing to me about MIDI in protools is that it defaults to that ugly, useless view instead of note view (like it used to, like it should still.)

Here is THE solution!!

1) In the grid mode, highlight the midi you want to use in the edit window (let's say 2 bars). Make sure the Track View Selector is in the "clips" mode.

2) Hit Command + E to Separate the Clip at Separation.

3) Make sure the Grabber tool is in the "Separation" mode. On a blank instrument or midi track copy the clip you want to use with Option + dragging.

4) Drag the new clip to the start of the timeline.

5) Control Click on the Instruments/Midi track NAME (not the clip itself) and select "Export Midi"

6) Select the type of file you want (usually 1 multi-track) and save it where you want.

BAMM!!!
