Default Advantage of More DSP's for Same Voice Count?

The Pro-Tools reference guide, offers a chart, for different HD systems Voice capabilities at different samplerates, but does not elaborate on what the advantages of using 3 DSP's for 96 voices, over 2 DSP's for 96 voices, or 1 v.s. 3 DSP's for 48 voices ect.

Can someone explain the advantages of allocating a higher number of DSP's for a voice count, when a setting is available, to have the same amount of voices, with less DSP.

Hi,

There's no Real advantage as such, Run on the lowest! if you start to get DAE error messages then you might need to allocate more DSP for voices.

I seemed to remember that there was an issue with PCI bus overloads if you used more Chips but it might be the other way around. In general I have always aimed for less DSP for more voices so I have more chips for Plug-ins.

I previously had an issue with noisy plugins and fuzzy distorted noises (when doing complex mixes using lots of horsepower), which was cured by upping the DSP chip number.
