The stereo bundle hardly seems worth renting for an extended period. $350 to rent the plug-ins for a year vs. $579 to own them outright. Not including sales, which if I recall discount up to 30%

i think $35 a month is a bit steep for the stereo version. but that is just me. i recently purchased the phoenixverb on sale and will be buying the r2 eventually... so i will just wait til the next sale and grab the r2 :) (not really interested in excaliber at all)

Subscriptions are ALWAYS more expensive than buying outright. That's why Avid is moving to a subscription model. It means more money for them.

If we were talking about renting in perpetuity, sure. But in my opinion a subscription is definitely not worth it if owning the product outright is less expensive than renting it for 2 years. Unless you know for sure that you won't need it past a year (or less!).

I think for a hobbyist who self produces, this could save alot of money. Let's say you work a full time job and do music as a hobby and your goal is to release one album a year. 11 months of the year are spent writing, recording and arranging the music in your spare time. You spend 1 month working on final mixes. That ends up being $35 a year. Obviously if you are a professional who uses the product day in and day out, the permanent license makes much more sense.

What's more interesting is the mention of the "Gobbler Store".*

Anyone know anything about that??

*still the worst company name EVER btw. Not sure who thought that was a good idea.

Pricing seems wrong. They might want to rethink that.

I hope they don't move everything to the Gobbler shop.
Another account/password to maintain.
Why this extra hassle?

Hi Frank,
The web store at Exponential Audio remains the way to do regular purchases. Nothing changes. The only time you'll deal with Gobbler is if you wish to go with subscriptions instead of purchases.

There is no change in regular permanent licenses. They work just the way they always have and that won't change. A few answers are here: http://www.exponentialaudio.com/subscription-q-and-a
