Digi 002 problem. Please help

I have a digi 002 running on a windows xp sp2 on protools 8.0... Everything had been working perfectly for years and now all of the sudden when I launch pro tools the app the 1394 starts blinking and restarts the computer and or I get the blue screen of death. When I do get in a sesson after mulitple trys and try to play the session I get a hardware buffer issue and it wont play. Everything worked before with no problems for a while and this just started out of nowhere.. Anybody have any clue what could be the problem??

Are you aware of the old(and very well-documented) "power harness" issue? This hits almost all 002 units at some point(and often more than once). The solution is to open the 002 and re-seat all the power harness connections several times each.

Have you ever "hot-patched" the firewire? That means plugging or unplugging while things are turned on. This can(and will) fry the FW circuit in the 002, the FW port of the computer, or both(and at this point, the repair cost would be more than the 002 is worth unless you can do micro-soldering yourself).

I have no idea what just happened but I did replacd the power supply earlier umm like 3 maybe 4 years ago.. but I did read up on the power harness and i took off the cover and put some contact lubricant on it and put it off and on like 5-6 times then tried again. It manage to load up protools but then when it comes to playback if gives me a 9021 error saying hardware buffer problem but what is wild is I thought hmmm let me try to record and it recorded with no problems but it's just the playback. I looked into the error code and digi said something about if you're running a dual processor then switch it to run on one not two so I was like what more can I try so I did that which rebooted my comouter and I had to reinstall all my drivers and now the digi 002 works perfectly. I don't understand because it was working perfectly before I did the whole reinstall of the processor driver to single computer which I'm guessing is single processor. I have no idea.. I'm kinda lost here..

If its working now, count yourself lucky. Everything you have is way past its useful life, so its time to start saving for an upgrade
