As "thread starter"
I asked why are we HD users having to pay an extra 200$ by years end [600$] to get on the "400$" per year bandwagon?

I am not bashing the company that I have $$$upported for a decade and a half.

So ....
Ill start again, in our cozy "licencing" forum

Why are we paying an extra 200 over the yearly 400 fee ?

The reason is because it was 599 and then lay back down because everybody threw a fit but they didn't back down off the initial price. It went down for future years.

So they are saying we hear you and we will change our policy, but we will do it next year....we are still in control

When I upgraded from 9HD to 10HD it was $999. 10HD to 12HD was $599.

I'm personally not furious with avid anymore since they changed to the current policy....I don't think you have to worry about it getting buried in a bottom drawer any time soon....Seems like everywhere I look, people are expressing their frustrations from youtube to facebook to gearslutz, etc....It's a shame how bad Avid blundered the roll out with the first policy...I was furious that I was going to lose my ability to upgrade in the future if I didn't "buy in" every year...I sure wasn't going to buy a hdx card and then pay an upgrade fee every year just so I wouldn't lose my ability to upgrade my HD license...This is a hobby for me so that just wasn't going to happen....I don't stay on the bleeding edge so I don't need to pay every year for an upgrade....I'm glad Avid changed to the current policy because $599 every 3 or 4 years is a lot cheaper than I would've paid in the past...AND I get a whole new license without trading in my old one so I'll have the old license to use on a second system....We've all wished we could do that in the past even if it's an older version so that will be sweet...If I see anything bad about it, it is that I don't trust Avid anymore....I think that's going to be an issue for them with a lot of customers....What I mean is, while I think the new revisions to the policy are fair and realistic compared to the pipe dream they started with, I'm bracing myself for yet another revision that totally changes it again....Too much confusion....moon

You do know that if you don't upgrade before the 31st 2015 you have to pay $999 to get back in on the next version, not $599 every 3 or 4 years, it's $599 now and $399 the next year and $999 if you skip the upgrade now the 31st December 2015.

Also you do have to surrender your current license and don't get to keep your old license for use on another computer.

As of now you still get a new PT10/11/12 bundled license but you can not split that up and they need to reside on the same ilok2 key, hence you can only use one license at a time with the ilok.

No one knows how long the license with all 3 PT licenses will be included and
if I haven't misunderstood your post the figures you posted was a bit off as is the info you have.

I'd consider this then to be good value for money.

Let's get this back to the top.....

OK....Thanks for clarifying....That's what I mean't by the confusion....Even when I think I got it, I don't got it .....I didn't realize you had to pay $999 for letting it lapse....I thought it was $599 and $399 every year after which is true for THIS YEAR ONLY.....You misunderstood what I mean't by splitting them up....I bought the 10,11,12,2016 HD upgrade this year....I know you can't split those up because they are bundled together under one license......When I let the plan lapse that will be the end of upgrade ability for that license....When I buy a new license in 3 to 4 years for $999, I'll have a new license that doesn't require surrendering on old license so I'll have the old license bundle to use on my old system if so desired.....That's all I mean't by that...Now that I realize it's $999, I'm not sure I'd upgrade 3-4 years....Probably more like 5-6 years....They may drop the price permanantly to $599 if enough people let it lapse....Who knows....Thanks again....moon

Avid has a history for rewarding those whom don't upgrade, not those that do.

I truly believe if enough HD owners don't pay the $599 by December 31st, there will be a discounted offer to entice them to, in 2016.

How many times has this happened in the past years with Avid?

Those whom wait, pay less.
