Default Pro Tools 10 for Students requires Hardware/Interface

Hello everyone,

Im going nuts by trying to set up my Pro Tools properly, i really hope someone can help me.

Here's my Problem:

I bought Pro Tools 10 for Students. When I start Pro Tools, it loads for some minutes until it starts loading the DAE section. Then comes a message:
"Hardware not found. Make sure that the Hardware is connected and switched ON. Click "OK" when Hardware is ready."
(I translated it from german. Im from/in Germany using german PT.)

When i connect my Line 6 ASIO interface it proceeds and PT starts as it should.

I think i did all the necessary steps:

- bought Pro Tools 10 for Students at my lokal musicstore
- got excited
- Entert my PT10 for Students verification code on identit-e.com/avid and sent a copy of my student ID with it.
- my request was accepted and i received my PT10 Students FULL Serialnumber
- I created an account on iLok.com and registered my iLok
- I created an avid.com account and activated my PT
- I updated my iLok so that i have a unlimited Pro Tools 10 licence on my iLok

Pro Tools 10 for Students is supposed to start with an iLok, and is actually not bound to any hardware. Like normal pro tool.

I also downloaded PT 10.2.2 and installed, but its still the same problem.

Can anybody help me?? Any ideas?
Im just searching for my 60 days support ticket which should be included when buying PT. Avid support is confusing ^^

Im gratefull for anyone who tries to help me.

Thank you guys,
Lars

(add: Im using fresh updated windows 7 home premium system, soundcard is onboard, asus p7p55d mainboard)

Pro Tools 10 needs an ASIO compatible audio device to run. Wether the audio built into the PC or an external interface. Or you may be able to install ASIO4ALL which maps legacy Windows audio devices to ASIO. All documented somewhere in the documentation and discussed to death on this forum. Search for ASIO4ALL.

"unable to locate hardware. make sure your hardware is connected and turned on"

That message? Yeah, you need an ASIO audio interface - onboard audio isn't going to do it.

And your system takes several minutes to load? Honestly, what are you running this on?

Sorry that is not necessarily true, onboard audio devises are widely useable with Pro Tools 10, if those devices don't support ASIO natively then the free ASIO4ALL software can maps legacy windows audio drivers to ASIO. Many users are running with that. The OP needs to test if this works on their system. Search DUC for "ASIO4ALL".

As with many things here a proper Sandra report from the systems being discussed would help answer many of these questions.

Edit: And just Googling 'asio4all asus p7p55d' shows folks apparently able to get this running but with some problems and fixes, again searching online answers lots of questions.

Download and install ASIO4ALL, http://www.asio4all.com/

This should allow Pro Tools to at least open, even if its not seeing the Line 6.

When you launch Pro Tools hold down the "N" key. This should bring up your playback engine dialog. See if it lets you select the Line 6. If not, try selecting the ASIO4All. Then create a session and go to your playback engine settings and try selecting the Line 6.
Lets see, how about reading the thread carefully before piling on. Yes asio4all is the key here but two other people already pointed that out. The issue is with the onboard audio not with the line 6 interface (which does not need asio4all and worked fine), neither was there a problem selecting that interface when it is connected (for the tests he did it's the only interface so auto-selects).

Hey guys,

thank you very much. its working fine now with asio4all.

it was the problem with onboard soundcards which use wdm driver.
also PT is starting very fast now. mybe it lagged because it was searching for the right device.

thanks again.
