Default Any drive suggestions 4tb+?

For record drive that is in an old cheese grater....

I'm using Seagate barracuda 3tb drive now. I've used WD Blacks before but I had a few dodgy ones.

I need more room. But now there's server drives, 24/7 drives, wolf drives, lions, tigers, bears oh my drives and I'm losing it. . Just figured I'd grab a 6Tb and be done with it. I back up nightly to a mirror.

Anyone have any horror or good luck stories with 4+TB drives?

HGST just come out with the new 128MB cache drives. Best read/write performance on an HHD I have seen. I just installed 4 of them for a raid a few days ago. They get HOT though.

Iron wolf 6Tb net me 210mbps. Barracuda pro was 200. That's up from my normal record drives at 170mbps.

Just put a Samsung 850 PRO SSD in my Mac Pro tower. Available in up to 2TB. SATA 6Gb/s, up to 550 write, up to 520 read. Best performance with their "Windows only" software, though. Installed fine under Mavericks.

I bought two different external RAID array 6TB external boxes for my MacBook Pro, both TB2, but the LaCie supports USB 3.0, too (the G-RAID Studio does not). Each of those was under $400 and supports up to about 400MB/sec in RAID 0.

Depends on what you will be doing.

I am not talking about 128MB/ps, I am talking about the actual drive cache (buffer) size. Most all new drives are 64MB cache (have been for a few years). But I just installed 4-4TB 128MB cache drives in a system for a Raid. HGST has some of the best life span numbers of any drive.

I wont even look at another Seagate. Their failure rates have turned them into an absolute no go. I had multiples of them go within a short time frame.

Indeed. I think the ones I got have either 128 or 256 cache. And the hear you on seagate failure rate. But for me? I've had 2 Wd blacks die and 4 toshibas. I've had 30-40 Seagates and they all still boot.
