I made the jump to 2013 MP 6-core this week and it's better, but the problem is not gone for sure. Yesterday I had a ton, and it turned out it was the Limitless plug from DMG audio on my master buss - I had a clipping/oversampling option turned on and the CPU hovered at 50% with spikes to 90%.
So if your theory is right, better to have higher single core performance over multi....or at least a good balance.

Yeah the oversampling is the thing that sends my CPUs into overdrive. TBH I often have 3 Auxes taking care of the mastering during a mix - usually a single Aux is dedicated to Ozone if the oversampling is turned on. Once you get used to running it like that its not really a hassle, even if it seems a bit superfluous.
