Default Disappearing Files

Working in PT 11 under Win 10 here. Here's the scenario:

Download received file to download folder
Import audio file into PT
Delete original file from d-load folder
Open session and PT can't find file - wants to re-link
Restore original to d-load folder and clip restored into session.

Watcha think?

Are you copying the file to your Audio folder in the Import dialogue? Have you gone to Processing Preferences and checked "Automatically Copy Files on Import"?

Whenever and wherever Pro Tools asks to copy audio, make sure you do.

One "trick" is to manually copy the audio into your session's Audio folder and then Import it into the session from there.

That trick^^^. Any time you bring in audio, whether by download, or from an external drive, its really easy to have this happen(even if you set the preference to always copy audio on import). After being stung by this a few times, I now do 1 of 2 things;
1-drag the entire folder(from DL or external drive) and copy it to my audio drive first. Then open, solve any routing issues(that usually happen when bringing a session for another rig) and save.

Or 2-create a new session and drop the imported files into the new session folder, so I know exactly where the files are(and I import from there, not from the original source)

This happened to me the other day. I imported files from the client's flashdrive. I definitely had prefs set to copy on import. Well, it didn't copy on import. Fortunately, I was able to get the flashdrive back...

So, I suppose the copy-on-import pref is broken?
