Default Fader flip/ Trim auto mode?

Hi All,
Whats the quickest way to get my two S1 faders into Trim automation mode?

And can the process be streamlined further with a user soft key or Soundflow script?

thanks in advance!

best,
Sean

if you have a Dock, hold Option on an S1 (3rd fader by default) and press Trim on the Dock.

If you don't have a Dock (or want to make it a single press), assign a softkey to Eucon > Automation > Trim All

(they already thought of this)

Hit the key you assigned it to to flip between trim on or off for all your faders.

Thanks!
currently not at studio to try this.

but I like the sound of this:
"If you don't have a Dock (or want to make it a single press), assign a softkey to Eucon > Automation > Trim All

(they already thought of this)

Hit the key you assigned it to to flip between trim on or off for all your faders."

so if I follow.....
After I assign a eucon soft key to:
"Automation > Trim All"

this soft key will "flip" all faders, AND drop into trim mode?

thanks again!

It’s not going to flip your faders. That’s going to be a separate process using the flip button on the S1.

Another method you could try if you have the preference in Eucon for the SHIFT + Rec button to change to Trim mode is to hold down the OPR key as well. So Opt+ Shift + Rec button. This might change all faders to Trim mode but I
I’m not in front of my surfaces to be sure.

If you are trying to trim volume automation, why the flip?
This will do what you originally asked (there is no need for "flip")
Am I misunderstanding your purpose or have you moved the goal posts?

thanks.
as you know trim mode just modifies the previous automation data, so we need a different or a "clean" fader to trim up or down, correct?

Im just trying to get the S1 to behave like my previous console experiences.

where if I wanted to trim a vocal automation pass.

1. Id flip all faders with one button push, they would default at 0.

2. Id enter trim automation mode for all faders by one button push.

3. I would trim up or down based off of the baseline / default fader status

4. when finished trimming automation, id flip all faders back to normal status.

5. and with one button, change automation status of all faders from trim to either, read, touch, or latch.

This simple, fast and familiar process id what Im trying to achieve with the S1s and Dock.

thanks again for the interest and time.

If you want to do your steps 1-4 (plus maybe 5),
In Pro Tools > Preferences > Mixing > Automation set "Coalesce Trim Automation" to "On exiting trim mode" and the trim fader will "0" out when you leave the mode.

Then create a soft key:
Eucon: Do to All
Eucon: (whatever automation mode you want)
Eucon: Trim

Do to All is found under Eucon:"Global"
Automation modes including Trim are found under Eucon: "Automation" > "Modes"

Hit the softkey, all faders will go into whatever auto mode + trim, hit it again and it will just be in the auto mode with no trim (which may satisfy your step 5 if it is the same mode you want.)
When you exit trim it will coalesce and the trim fader will be back at unity when you return to trim mode. You could set up another softkey for "Do to All", auto mode "Read" to exit all of this though, if it was in trim, it will be in read+trim. If you always have the same workflow, you could do first softkey as above, second softkey Do to All, Trim, Read. This will exit trim and then switch to Read (assuming you don't use the first softkey as a toggle)
Or you could create a third soft key that is just Trim All and that can be your exit of trim if needed or enter trim when you want.

I still don't understand what your "flip all faders" is about in step 1. Trim is not a separate fader set (like something like sends, pan, or plugin automation.) Trim is on the same fader layer as regular volume automation. Maybe you just mean that colloquially as a "change mode" instead of digital mixer/control surface terms.

It’s most likely this and not the actual Surface Flip button.

Diggin in during some down time, and Im learning that when you put the dock fader [focus fader?] into "trim" it, it automatically jumps to zero.

so you point is solid, my need for "fader flip" to 0 is unnecessary.

my biggest hurdle, is forgetting my previous console life, and really learning these current tools.

thanks again for the time.

The Pro Tools Preferences (Preferences > Mixing > Automation section) that I mentioned earlier really determines how Trim works for coalescing and returning to 0.

It can return to 0 after every trim pass (that's the default.) I, personally, don't like that because you don't get a chance to decide if that's what you want.
I like it to coalesce when I'm done with the trim (exit trim mode setting.)
The third option is manually. In which case, you can set a softkey to commit the trim to the main automation (thereby zeroing it out.)

But Eucon/S1 just follows the PT setting for all of this (it doesn't have separate automation setup options independent of Pro Tools.)
