Default Flashing 1394 on 002 R?

This has to be a firewire problem, correct? No communication between hardware and software? BTW, G5 Dual 2ghz, OS X 10.3.5 and I know it hasn't been fully tested yet.

Is the Digi002 also making a "tick tick tick" sound when the light flashes? If so, then the exact same thing happened to me, and I had to send my unit back to Digidesign and have them fix my unit.

If such is the case, then I recommend contacting your local distributor and looking into what you need to do.

If there is no odd sound, then try downloading the latest drivers for the Core Audio engine, and make sure to follow the directions precisely.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

If the light isn't steady while ProTools is running, the CoreAudio driver isn't the solution.

It doesn't click when the 1394 flashes, but it does click when I turn it on. Did yours do that?

Mine ticks three or four times, along with the light, before staying on. I think this is part of the standard setup procedure. Sometimes, it will click a few times and then stop, and the light remains OFF. A simple turn-off and back-on procedure always fixes this. I'm not sure what this means, but I seem to always be able to turn it on with a couple of tries at least.

Do you know what was wrong with your unit?

My machine is clicking like you mentioned. the 1394 light is not blinking though - it just stays off. What is strange is that this only began to happen when I upgraded to 10.3.5. Before, it wasn't happening.

I am on a PB G4 1 ghz with a Digi 002R. I have 3 FW 400 drives donected with the Digi 002 as the last devie on this FW line. I also have 1 FW 800 drive on the FW800 bus. I updated from PT6.2.2 to 6.4 and from 10.3.2 to 10.3.5 and had NO success. I was constantly getting error messages. "Pro tools cannot communicate with the Digi 002." I also got messages that said "Firewire bus reset was detected. Please check firewire cables and power to firewire devices. (-6090)."

Then I discovered on the Digi Answerbase that 10.3.5 is not supported with PT 6.4 and that it is advised to use 10.3.4 (this is officially supported). I then downgraded to 10.3.4 and reinstalled PT. However, I am still having exactly the same problems.

The only post regarding the -6090 errors is that you shouldn't disconnect a DV device while PT is running. I don't have anything connected to the Digi 002!

The strange thing is that PT works for a few minutes and then I hear some clicking from inside the Digi002R - the sample rate lights blink on and off and the green 1394 light goes out. Sometimes, if I start and restart PT, everything will go back to normal. When this blinking and clicking goes on, PT will either refuse to play and/or it will give some kind of error.

If you have ANY suggestions, I would very much like to hear them!

Thank you!!!!

boandperson -

I'd try removing all the FW drives, and just using the 002 and the computer, and see if it's any different. 10.3.5 seems to have introduced new bugs in Firewire, and you're running a lot of FW devices.

And your 002 may have decided to have power harness problems.

the power amps of some units do not reach the correct voltage, something around 5 volts. some units only make 4.8 .9 and because of that the clock never locks. they have to regulate the amount of power. as simple as using a screwdriver.

Thanks for your feedback!

I've tried disconnecting ALL of my FW drives and I still get the same behaviour. I also get the same behaviour running Live 4.0.3.

The unit seems to be cycling through clock settings even when I'm not running any audio programs. That sounds like what you referred to - that it's not able to power up appropriately and isn't able to lock to the appropriate clock rate.

The only time the 1394 light comes on is when I open up an audio program. Then it stays on until it stops playback and then stays off. At this point, it begins clicking - presumably cycling through the clock settings. (?)

What seems strange is that I've never had this problem until I upgraded to PT 6.4 and OS10.3.4.

Any ideas would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thank you!!!!!
