Default Guitar sounds not translating

Maybe someone can help me....

Whenever I try to dial in a good guitar sound from 11 Rack, on the monitors, it sounds great. But when I press the record button and finish the take, the guitar sound does not sound anything like what it sounded before I recorded the take.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi don't if this is the case but sometimes the inner sound of the electric guitar while playing can mask the audio comming from the speakers . It happens to me sometimes . I have to raise the volume a litte to hear the real speakers sound .

I'm not a 11r expert but if you are hearing so much difference there most be something different between the way you are monitoring the DI signal and 11r when Pro your DAW is in playback

"does not sound anything like" .... So, what does it sound like? Is it trashed? Grainy? Clean? Stereo track or mono?

Much clearer info needed.

Starting with what Benoni is asking

And also...

What DAW/version are you using?

While you are recording/tracking does the monitoring during that sounds OK? But the playback does not?

What input are you recording from in that track?

You need to be recoding the rig output L (or R) or the rig output L/R pair not the Guitar In (which is just the dry guitar sound and will be low level and thin sounding).

Are you playing back through the same monitors attached to the Eleven Rack a different interface/monitors?

Be careful when comparing things that you have output SPL about equal.

It may also help to describe your entire setup, including the Eleven Rack rig/effects/amp model, guitar and pickups and any external pedals and effects, etc.

Guys I have a similar issue btw .... When I track Live with Eleven the sound is sublime ...

When I start recording and I monitor the sound still is great but when I hear the recorded Guitar track it sound so DULL and not Lively !

I am using Logic Pro X

So the Monitoring sounds great but playback does not sound okay.

I am recording from the SPDIF inputs (mirroring the Rig Outputs)

definitely playing back through the same monitors attached to an apogee symphony just like it was when I was tracking and recording ....

What about the output SPL ?? what do u mean here ?

Nothing major in my setup .. a factory preset on the eleven rack which is connected through SPDIF to my apogee symphony ... nothing else attached or so any external hardwares, pedals etc ...

What exact rig contents? An Eleven Rack editor screen shot would be ideal.

How exactly are you monitoring while tracking and playing back? You are monitoring the S/PDAiF source through Pro Tools or are you swapping monitors connected to the Eleven Rack main outputs and then you physically reconnect them to the apogee (what model?)? What exact cables are used in each situation?

The SPL comment is just... volume, guitar especially may need to be loud enough to sound best.

Are you playing back that exact track you just recorded by itself? Or the track in a mix with additional processing? The earlier should be identical once you match the SPL. In a mix, or by itself with any additional processing, who knows... it could be anything you are doing in Pro Tools.

Because you are not using the Eleven Rack as an interface—it’s really in stand alone mode—you are not affected by the local monitoring/doubling issues you would be with non-Pro Tools DAWs.

It’s really hard to believe there is a fundament difference here with the digital signal. If you really feel there is then do some tests with the Eleven Rack reamping a test signal and A/B test the live monitoring of that and the recorded wet track. That assumes you are monitoring always through Pro Tools or have a monitor controller and can source switch in real time.

I will try to take a screenshot once I am in the studio of the Rack Editor Rig

I am just Pressing the " I " button in my audio track to monitor the guitar while I record...

My Monitors are Connected to my Apogee Symphony Outputs, and the Eleven Rack SPDIF connections are connected to my Apogee Symphony ... My Guitar is connected to the Guitar Input in my Rack
Apogee Symphony I/O 2x6 connected to a Thunderbridge Apogee Box Thunderbolt
I am using Mogami Cables in all my studio
It is worth mentioning that the Eleven Rack Settings (The window you open in the settings in MAC) points to a message saying "unable to detect a valid external clock signal" whenever I choose the clock as SPDIF instead of Internal but again this is not affecting my sound When I play Guitar ... no pops or clicks whatsoever....

yes I am playing back the exact track i just recorded by itself ...

and yes I am not using the Eleven rack as my main interface in the DAW

So just to confirm. You are not using the hardware mixer for monitoring in the Apogee?

Are you monitoring in low latency mode in Logic Pro? That might be disabling plugins you have in the signal flow that then mess up stuff during playback. Try disabling low latency mode if it is enabled.

I’d not waste much time before setting up a new clean test session and reamp a signal and A/B test it. I.e. record a reamped wet track, then reamp another wet track from the same dry track and while that is reamping monitor that and mute/switch between tracks and see what difference you hear.

I got it !! Thank you Darryl ! Will try that eventhough reamping when the rack isnt used as a main interface in my DAW isn't much pretty straight forward .. I will figure out how to do it
